  • Devenido artista icónico de la década del 80 en Cuba, Moisés Finalé fue de los pocos que supo mantenerse apegado a la pintura, sin recaer en caminos trillados y discursos manidos.

The present picture is one of the many canvasses that Moisés Finalé painted for the acclaimed exhibit Levitación (Levitation) presented at the gallery hall Orígenes of Gran Teatro de La Habana (Grand Theater of Havana) in the autumn of 2016.

[…] His essentially expressive work, of high classic language and great technique in the elaboration, does not allow his pigeonholing in the comings and goings of abstract and figuration. Still, his proposal contains a refinement and suggestion so full of metaphors, mythologies and dreams, with such deep, well-thought mastery, that –undoubtedly and running the risk of announcing it– Finalé is a contemporary baroque painter, essential heir of this aesthetic language molded by Alejo Carpentier in El Siglo de las luces. And we wish to clarify that baroque, as we understand it, is more a virtue of inspiration and style than a scholasticism of closed definition brought from the west. Finalé’s painting presents this questioning. 1
