Mabel Poblet
Susurro II, from the series Desapariencia, 2014Mixed media on PVC, 100 x 150 cm.

In this piece Mabel Poblet excels for the visual attractiveness she has us accustomed to. In other levels, this is one of her most subtle works regarding femininity and its status as a gender. As you can see, it’s a sketch on the performance of the gender, and also of women and their role. A very recurring feature we see is the gust. Quattrocento’s master Botticelli’s Venus was born –poetically– from the voluptuous blow transformed into life. Instead, Mabel outlines the woman, not as a result of divine puff but as an effluvium, a spring, and therefore an exercise of instructing power. Pure deconstructive practice this whisper of hers.
