Los Carpinteros equip everyday life and snatch away its loftiest signs. Their presence on the grounds of contemporary art is a frank chronicle of the rawness and the paradox of present times. We must not ignore the post-conceptualist resources, or the post-minimal ideology that characterizes the vast production of this creative group. Nor their insistence in the translation of thought into a culture definitely influenced by high tech, which is distinguished by its elegance, simplicity and severe expression. Any attempt to sum up the mood of their vast production must be considered useless. The pride of these post-modern sophists is definitely supported by greatness; the word they say is not law, it is more, is indisputable truth.
Swimming pools, profane altars, tomatoes that stain with their blood the decrepitude of a wall, replicas, posters, agonizing miniatures, dethroned lighthouses, and reversible congas of clumsy steps: all those figures are unfinished metaphors that wait at the temple of history for the decrepitude of its impulses. Insatiable, they attend the man in the present course of memory and everyday life. The rickety signs released by Los Carpinteros with these steles are fearsome; their voice of oracle is terrifying. Prestidigitation has not been the determination of their lives, or their oeuvre’s. On the contrary, it urges them to put everything in its right place and to stimulate the branched, everlasting and unbridled thought of mankind about their condition, their actions and endeavors. In short, it is a contorted manifestation of philosophical tessitura.
The myth of the new, whose ghost hunts the halls of contemporaneity without effective rest, does not affect them. However, they offer increasingly recent and boisterous symbolic constructions for public consumption, through which they propose a fertile rediscovery act as elemental relationship between people and their time. In short: mild, subtle and fascinating poetry, which subdues human sensitivity. Their oeuvre constitutes a sort of elemental mapping through which it is possible to consider the world without risk of shock, uncertainty or vulnerability. If right now everything would start again, naming every object that makes up our knowledge of the universe parting from the bunch of ideas these creators have generated with their determination would be risky, and more, also enjoyable.
